POSITION OVERVIEW: DEAN OF THE SCHOOL OF INTERNET OF THINGS
XJTLU is seeking an innovative academic leader to serve as Dean of the School of Internet of Things at the Taicang campus. The Dean plays a critical role in the School’s strategic development, providing leadership in teaching, research, and industry collaboration. Reporting to the Team Leader of the XJTLU Entrepreneur College’s (XEC) Collective Leadership Team, the Dean is a key member of XJTLU’s senior management and represents the School at both national and international levels.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership:

  • Lead the School’s Management Team and strategic planning initiatives.

  • Ensure alignment of the School’s teaching, research, and industry engagement with its mission and international accreditation standards.

  • Grow external partnerships, represent the School globally, and contribute to its reputation.

  • Provide executive-level strategic advice to leadership teams and industry partners, fostering business growth through innovation.

  • Collaborate with other academic units, ensuring synergies across the university.

Administration:

  • Oversee all functional and managerial operations of the School.

  • Manage budget development, work allocation, and staff appointments.

  • Support staff development through professional reviews and feedback.

Management:

  • Line manage academic staff, ensuring high performance and professional development.

  • Lead the School’s academic promotion and performance review processes.



Key Relationships
The Dean will work closely with the Associate Vice-Presidents for Learning and Teaching, Research and Impact, and the Director of ERDI. Other key collaborators include Deans of other schools, the Chief Operating Officer for XEC, and the Centre for Academic Affairs. The Dean will also mentor School staff, particularly in leadership and management roles.

Candidates should embody the values of Integrative Education (SE), a model developed by XJTLU to prepare leaders for the rapidly evolving challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The Dean should possess a global perspective, management skills, discipline-specific expertise, and adaptability. Candidates must be visionary, impact-driven leaders who thrive on cross-boundary collaboration and co-learning with students, academics, and industry partners.

Required Qualifications/Experience

  • PhD in IoT, computer science, networking, electronics, or related fields from a world-renowned university or equivalent professional practice.

  • International reputation and significant research impact in relevant fields.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with industrial partners on research and development projects.

  • Extensive experience in academic leadership, strategic planning, and people management.

  • Strong communication skills in English; proficiency in Chinese is an advantage.

  • Administrative experience in international or Sino-foreign joint universities is preferred.
