Introduction

The School of Health and Social Care, part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences (FMHLS), is excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic academic support professional to join our team. This fixed-term, part-time role is designed to bolster our Certificate in Health Care Studies while also supporting various other professional programs within the School.

Our Certificate in Health Care Studies is a comprehensive program aimed at Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) currently working in nursing environments. The program combines theoretical knowledge with practical learning, fostering close integration between students and faculty. Regular teaching will occur at our St. David’s Park campus in Carmarthen and in students' clinical practice areas, ensuring a robust and relevant learning experience.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing the educational experience of our students, contributing significantly to the teaching and administration of the Certificate in Health Care Studies. This position also includes responsibilities related to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision across the School.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Learning Support:

    • Deliver high-quality instruction for the Certificate in Health Care Studies.

    • Provide academic support and guidance to students, both at the St. David’s Park campus and in their clinical settings.

    • Engage in regular teaching activities, including both theoretical and practical components.

  • Program and Course Management:

    • Assist in the planning, development, and evaluation of the Certificate in Health Care Studies.

    • Collaborate with academic colleagues to ensure the programme meets current standards and regulatory requirements.

    • Participate in academic administration and organizational tasks related to the program.

  • Student Supervision and Support:

    • Work closely with clinical colleagues in Local Health Boards to support students during their clinical placements.

    • Provide mentorship and academic supervision for students, fostering their development and addressing any challenges they may face.

  • Collaborative Work:

    • Contribute to the broader academic community within the School, including participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision.

    • Engage in interdepartmental and cross-disciplinary collaborations to enhance the educational experience and outcomes for students.

  • Administrative Duties:

    • Share in the organizational and academic administrative responsibilities as required.

    • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of the program and related activities.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Academic Background:

    • A relevant qualification in a health or social care discipline, preferably at least at the level of a Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

    • Experience in teaching or training within a health care or related setting.

  • Teaching Experience:

    • Proven experience in delivering high-quality teaching and academic support, particularly in health care or nursing education.

    • Ability to design and implement effective learning strategies and assessments.

  • Clinical Collaboration:

    • Experience working with clinical teams and an understanding of the practical aspects of health care delivery.

    • Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate effective collaboration with clinical colleagues and support student learning in real-world settings.

  • Organizational Skills:

    • Excellent organizational and administrative abilities, with attention to detail and a commitment to high standards.

    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities efficiently.

  • Communication Skills:

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, colleagues, and external partners.

    • Welsh language skills at Level 1 are desirable but not essential. Level 1 proficiency can be attained through a brief introductory course.



Welsh Language Skills
