Overview

The University of Surrey International Study Centre, operated by Study Group, offers a dynamic and supportive environment for international students pursuing their academic goals. We are seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Tutor to join our team, dedicated to delivering exceptional teaching and fostering an outstanding student experience. This role involves collaboration with colleagues across the Centre, focusing on innovative teaching practices and effective student support.

Key Responsibilities

Module Development and Delivery

As a Tutor, you will play a vital role in designing, delivering, and developing a variety of Business Economics modules. Your contributions will span the following levels:

  • Foundation (RQF Level 3)

  • Year One Undergraduate (FHEQ Level 4)

  • Pre-Master (FHEQ Level 6)

You will prepare and conduct engaging lessons, including seminars and tutorial sessions, ensuring that students grasp core concepts and apply their learning effectively.

Assessment and Feedback

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Writing and preparing unit examinations along with other formative and summative assessments.

  • Marking student submissions and providing timely, constructive feedback to enhance their learning experience.

  • Conducting regular tutorials and writing comprehensive student reports to monitor progress.

Course Material Development

You will contribute to the development and updating of course materials, ensuring they are relevant and engaging. This includes creating content for the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), which is essential for fostering an interactive learning atmosphere.

Student Support and Mentoring

A significant part of your role will be providing support to students. You will:

  • Work alongside the Centre’s administration team to deliver induction, orientation, and registration programmes.

  • Monitor students' academic journeys, identifying areas for intervention and support.

  • Act as an Academic Mentor, guiding groups of students to ensure their welfare and academic progression.



Quality Assurance and Governance

Maintaining high standards of quality assurance is crucial. You will:

  • Implement quality assurance procedures at both the module and teaching session levels.

  • Contribute to the annual monitoring and review of courses.

  • Attend standardisation, moderation, and other quality assurance meetings to uphold academic integrity.

You will also engage with the Centre and University governance structures, participating in compulsory meetings and ensuring effective management of the programme.

Professional Development

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, you will:

  • Participate in regular training and development activities to enhance your teaching skills.

  • Maintain a log of these activities, reflecting your professional growth and contributions to the Centre.

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for candidates who have a passion for working with international students and meet the following criteria:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related subject area.

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree, ideally in Business Economics or a relevant discipline.

  • A relevant Teaching Qualification, demonstrating your commitment to pedagogical excellence.

  • Fluent in spoken and written English, with a strong ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.

  • Experience teaching in the UK Higher or Further education sector, with a preference for those who have worked with international students.

Additional qualifications in your subject area will be highly regarded, especially for teaching in Pre-Masters programmes.
