Position Overview


The Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Bristol is seeking part-time (up to three days a week) or full-time Lecturers in Design Thinking to join our multi-award-winning team. Our Centre is a key part of the University’s strategy to enhance the connections between education, research, entrepreneurship, and innovation while leveraging Bristol’s unique assets on the global stage.

Innovation involves applying creative solutions to real-world challenges, and we seek individuals with practical industry experience to guide and inspire the next generation of innovators. Whether you are a successful entrepreneur eager to give back, an innovator with a strong product design background, or an experienced educator in higher education, this position could be your next exciting opportunity.

Role Responsibilities
As a Lecturer in Design Thinking, you will:

  • Develop and deliver design thinking content for undergraduate and graduate courses.

  • Undertake associated administrative duties.

  • Collaborate with academic colleagues to contribute to curriculum development and enhance teaching, learning, and assessment strategies.

  • Support students, both individually and in groups, in developing innovative solutions to complex problems.

  • Leverage your expertise to inspire students to think creatively and differently.

  • Help design and develop new or existing innovation and design thinking activities, initiatives, and programs, including specific projects and non-accredited courses.



Qualifications and Expertise

We welcome applications from candidates who possess:

  • Expertise in leading design, innovation, or service design teams and/or directing design research and strategy programs.

  • A portfolio showcasing design expertise, with a focus on human-centered design thinking methodologies and strong design and prototyping skills for solving complex organizational challenges.

  • Significant experience in user research methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative.

  • Teaching experience in a higher education institution, preferably in a Design School, or substantial applied experience in a commercial or social context.

  • Familiarity with current debates, trends, and issues within the fields of Design Thinking and Service Design.

  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills.

  • Proven ability to contribute effectively to the administration and management of the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

  • Experience in developing, testing, and iterating prototypes with users.
