Lecturer in Journalism


The Department of Communication & Journalism at Bournemouth University is inviting applications for a dynamic and dedicated Lecturer in Journalism to join our Faculty of Media and Communication. Our department is esteemed for its innovative, industry-leading courses, offering professional body qualifications and real-world placements in an excellent learning environment.


The Lecturer in Journalism will have a specialism in areas such as digital journalism, sports journalism, or general journalism. A passion for student-centered learning will drive contributions to the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and there may also be potential programme management responsibilities. Students' employability will be enhanced, and relevant professional bodies will be involved at regional, national, and international levels. Strong NCTJ standards knowledge is highly desirable.


It is preferred that a PhD has been attained, but considerable experience and achievements in journalism are always welcome, with an emphasis on marked impact. The institution welcomes people who share in the proposition of striving for the pursuit of academic excellence and continuous improvement within a collaborative and innovative educational environment.





Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide quality teaching in the undergraduate and postgraduate programs available.

  • Support management of programs, and make contributions toward development of curriculum where required.

  • Students will be engaged with industry professionals and organizations to help increase employability.

  • Increase professional engagement and cooperation locally, nationally, and internationally.


About You:


  • Journal, digital journalism, and/or sports journalism know-how.

  • Zeal for teaching and pedagogical concerns from a student-centered perspective.

  • Able to add value to academic programmes and professional engagement.

  • A PhD degree (preferred) or significant relevant industry experience in journalism.

  • Commitment to academic excellence and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
