Research Laboratory Technician 


The Cambridge Institute for Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease, University of Cambridge, seeks a highly ambitious and highly competent research laboratory technician to join the laboratory group of Professor Christoph Hess. The lab specializes in metabolic mechanisms that control lymphocyte function and in the translational potential of immunometabolic regulation in particular by using de novo approaches to enhance cancer immunotherapy.


Within this role, you will join a very exciting anti-cancer T cell bioengineering project centered on utilizing the very latest molecular biology and immunological techniques in order to potently enhance the ability of engineered T cells to identify and kill cancerous cells. You will help manage the day-to-day lab functions and support current projects in Hess's lab while performing other critical research tasks.

Ex vivo T cell editing and functional assays as part of biological studies

Cellular Assays- T cell performance evaluation

General laboratory work and workflow efficiency

Assist the group with various techniques such as, flow cytometry, extraction of primary immune cells from blood, cell culture.

ELISA and Western blotting among molecular and cellular biology techniques





Requirements for the Candidate:


A bachelor's degree in biological sciences or closely related field.

Laboratory experience in molecular biology and/or immunology.

Desirable knowledge of primary immune cell manipulation, T cell culture, and flow cytometry.

Excellent experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques such as western blot and ELISA.

Lab work-approach detail-oriented and methodical with excellent organization skills.

Sound troubleshooting skills, adaptation of protocols, and independent research problem solving.

An excellent team worker and communicator able to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary research environment.

This is a fixed term position with funds available until 30th November 2027. The post is anticipated to start on 1st December 2024 with interviews scheduled to take place shortly after the closing date of 17th November 2024.
