Research Assistant in IoT Wireless Sensor Networks

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Research Assistant (RA) specializing in IoT Wireless Sensor Networks. You will work under the supervision of Dr. Edmond Nurellari, Associate Professor and Programme Leader in Electronic Engineering.

Role Overview

In this role, you will focus on the design and development of a low-power smart sensor system for cold-storage food warehouses. Reporting directly to Dr. Nurellari in the School of Engineering, you will collaborate closely with other project team members and external research partners.

You will have the chance to engage in internationally leading research in low-power design and wireless communications hardware, collaborating with experts in Electronic Engineering, Machine Learning, Food Science, and Agri-Tech. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Simulating, designing, assembling, and testing wireless sensor networks (WSNs).

  • Performing data analysis using machine learning algorithms.

  • Traveling within the UK as needed for project collaboration.

Additionally, you may provide embedded systems design support for other research initiatives within the School of Engineering, focusing on robotics, wireless communications, and high-frequency sensing systems.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A Master's or Honours Degree in Electrical/Electronics, Computer Science and Engineering, Robotics, Embedded Systems, Mechatronics, or related fields.

  • Experience in modeling and designing wireless sensor networks and PCB assembly.

  • Proficiency in programming using C/C++ or other embedded platforms or related design tools.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with project teams and staff in the School of Engineering.
