Research Fellow in Maternity Care
We are recruiting a motivated and dedicated employee to join the Institute of Applied Health Research at the University of Birmingham. This is focused on Theme 4 (Maternity) in the NIHR West Midlands Applied Research Collaboration (ARC), led by Professor Sara Kenyon. The aim will be to improve maternity care outcomes through high-quality research that closely works with healthcare professionals and stakeholders across the maternity pathway in antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care.
In this role, you will be allowed to lead and input into impactful research projects, develop new studies, and even apply for grant funding. It will include mixed-methods evaluations of maternity care processes and outcomes, especially when mothers are transitioned between services or identify areas that may need improvement. Opportunity alone provides the chance to have an impact on maternity care practices and contribute to the redesign of pathways of care for better care of mothers and babies.
A vacancy exists for this full-time, fixed-term role, appointed until March 2026. Salary: £35,880 - £45,163; £47,874 with incremental progression.
Key Responsibilities:
Mixed-method approach is being used to improve the maternity care results.
To start new projects and submit grant proposals.
Collaborate with health professionals to redesign pathways of care.
Engage with stakeholders across the maternity care pathway.
Coordinate with a multidisciplinary NIHR team to share knowledge and expertise.
Requirements:
The first qualification is the degree level in a relevant field preferably with a higher degree or equivalent qualifications.
High analytical ability combined with good experience in research methodologies.
Excellent communication skills are given with the ability to convey clear information for complex problems and ideas.
Have had experience in planning, organizing, and coordinating research projects.
Keen on the details, the ideal candidate should have a comprehensive insight into the NHS maternity care pathway.
