Associate Professor in Forensic Pathology
The University of Leicester invites applications from an experienced and committed Associate Professor (Clinical) in Forensic Pathology / Honorary Consultant to join the East Midlands Forensic Pathology Unit of the Department of Genetics, Genomics, and Cancer Sciences. This excellent role combines a clinical service delivery commitment with academic duties where one can be part of shaping the future of forensic pathology through teaching, research, and public service.
Role Overview:
In this key role, you will provide expert forensic pathology services to police forces and coronial jurisdictions when investigating sudden and suspicious deaths. In conjunction with your clinical work, you will play a leading role in teaching and training the next generation of forensic pathologists. This will include lecturing in forensic pathology and related specialty fields providing hands-on clinical teaching and supervising both undergraduate medical students and postgraduate research projects.
You will contribute to and lead the unit's research program through engagement with knowledge exchange activities and academic development in forensic pathology. You will also take part in autopsy training and service delivery that contributes to both clinical service and educational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Forensic pathology services are of the highest quality for police and coronial cases.
You will teach and lead undergraduate and postgraduate education in forensic pathology and related subjects.
Supervise research projects and undertake postgraduate training.
Involvement in the investigation of suspicious and sudden deaths.
Conduct research and expertise in forensic pathology.
Perform post-mortem for training and service and contribute to clinical audit.
Candidate must:
Be a fully accredited medical practitioner GMC-registered and holding a license to practice
Has completed higher specialist training in forensic pathology
Within six months of the interview date, eligible for being placed on Specialist Register for Forensic Histopathology.
FRCPath (Forensic) or equivalent, and qualified for inclusion on the Home Office list of approved forensic pathologists.
Commitment to teaching with experience in student supervision
Strong communication and presentation skills; able to communicate complex information to a variety of audiences.
Desirable: experience in autopsy techniques, forensic imaging, and clinical audit.
