Position Overview

The Bodleian Libraries is excited to announce an opening for a Library Assistant to join our Collections and Resource Description (C&RD) Team at Osney Mead, Oxford. This position presents an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to contribute to various sections within the C&RD Team, including acquisitions, cataloging, legal deposit operations, as well as Asian and Middle Eastern Studies.

As a Library Assistant, you will play a vital role in the physical processing and holdings management of Bodleian Libraries and other Oxford University Libraries materials. Your responsibilities will involve using the Alma system for processing and managing the library’s stock, as well as assisting with stock relocation tasks as needed. This role requires a balance of independent work and teamwork, and you will be expected to handle manual tasks regularly.

This is a permanent, part-time position requiring 27.5 hours of work per week, with all work to be performed onsite due to the nature of the duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Physical Processing: Manage the physical processing of library materials, ensuring items are correctly cataloged and available for use.

  • Holdings Management: Use the Alma system to maintain accurate records of library holdings and facilitate effective resource management.

  • Stock Relocation: Assist with the relocation of stock as required to optimize library space and improve accessibility.

  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues across various sections of the C&RD Team, including acquisitions, cataloging, and legal deposit operations.

  • Independent Work: Demonstrate the ability to work independently on assigned tasks, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all responsibilities.

  • Manual Handling: Regularly engage in manual handling of library materials as part of your daily duties.
